I love traveling in general. But road trips are my favorite kind. The very first road trip I did was with my mom when we traveled from Charlotte, NC to Monterey CA four years ago. A year and a half later I travelled back to the East Coast with my boyfriend. Since then, I haven't really done another road trip, until now, and I can't be more excited.
I have wanted to go to Maine for a while now. I've seen pictures and I have friends who have lived there, and it looks like a place I will fall in love with. A couple of months ago, my friend Aurelia told me that she needed to go to Maine to inspect her car. I mentioned to her that I was interested in going and now I am on a train on my way to meet with her to start the road trip.
I've lived in the US for almost 8 years now, and the past two I have lived in the DC Metro Area. Almost every business person living in DC, Philadelphia, New York and Boston takes the train quite often. I had never done it until now. And I am happy to admit that it has been a pleasant experience.
Packing was not that pleasant, though. I was hoping that the weather would be as nice as it has been in the past week. But that will not be the case. Temperatures are going to drop and it is going to be raining and even snowing. So packing to be prepared for cold, wet weather in a small carry-on for a week was hard. I did manage though, despite the fact that at the very last minute I decided to bring my ski pants and jacket. But I think that at the end I am going to be very happy that I did that.
Aurelia picked me up from the station and since the sunset was reflecting very nicely on the New York City's buildings, we decided to drive to Liberty Park to take pictures. We got there too late to take good pictures with the phone. But it was very beautiful. Of course, getting out of there got complicated. Aurelia thought that after two years of living here, she would know her way around, but that was not the case. We ended up (twice) in some Port Authority gate and had to turn around.
We finally made it home. We went to a restaurant to have dinner and it was pretty horrible. But the company was great and I am very happy to be here and ready for our trip that starts tomorrow.
